Thomas Birr will assume a new role at E.ON SE
innogy’s Head of Innovation Thomas Birr will be moving to E.ON on 1 July 2019 to lead E.ON’scentral function “Strategy” which will comprise in future also E.ON’s innovation activities. In his newrole, he will directly report to Chief Executive Officer Johannes Teyssen. Thomas Birr is currently Senior Vice President Innovation & Business Transformation at innogy SE and CEO of the innogy Innovation Hub.

Thomas Birr has worked for over 20 years within the RWE Group and at innogy SE in a number of different areas. A qualified engineer, he initially held various leadership roles within the retail and trading business and later became Managing Director of RWE Key Accounts and CEO of RWE Westfalen-Weser Ems. In the period from 2009 to 2016, Thomas Birr was responsible as Chief Strategy Officer for the Corporate Strategy of RWE AG and played a major role in the transformation of the company and its division into RWE and innogy. Since the IPO of innogy in the autumn of 2016, Thomas Birr has led the innogy Innovation Hub, with its business activities in Berlin, London, Palo Alto (USA) and Tel Aviv (Israel), turning it into one of the largest and most influential strategic start-up investors in the energy sector.
