innogy SmartHome develops international ecosystem for Internet of Things

  • Digital services as cross-sector solutions for end customers

  • Each business partner contributes expertise – makes use of existing innogy infrastructure

  • New control unit makes it even easier to connect to networks

innogy SmartHome is developing an ecosystem for the Internet of Things (IoT) and offers its business partners innovative options for cooperation. Partner companies will be able to utilise the complete SmartHome infrastructure as well as the innogy platform to develop their own products. According to their interests and specialisations, cooperating companies can choose to integrate their devices or design innovative services for the existing products and functions that the platform offers.

Our model of cooperation has been attracting a great deal of attention – both in Germany and internationally. A number of well-known companies have approached us and we have already agreed to cooperate with several of them. With others, we are conducting very promising talks which are about to be completed. The innogy platform opens up new opportunities for flexible business models and this is sure to attract even more consumers to the interconnected lifestyle.

There are multiple options available to innogy’s platform partners. They can choose to market their integrated products and services as a complete SmartHome system. Or they can offer selected SmartHome services, either independently or with the platform – which could also be international and highly scalable. innogy provides business partners with access to its complete IT infrastructure including all interfaces and the innogy SmartHome app. Alternatively, companies can develop their own apps and link them to the platform.

Regardless of which option innogy’s platform partners choose, they become part of a powerful network of companies that are leaders in their respective fields. This means that partner companies benefit from the overall expertise as well as the end customer solutions that are available for the platform as a whole.

In addition, there are now even more options for building networks and developing new services, thanks to the new innogy SmartHome control unit. All innogy products and integrated third-party products are connected to the unit. The control system is compatible with new communication protocols such as the radio protocol CoSIP, Bluetooth, WiFi, Lemonbeat and wMBus, making it a reliable option for the long term. These are the ideal conditions for the integration of new types of devices into the innogy SmartHome system in future and the development of new smart services.

The new control unit was developed in collaboration with MEDION. Users of MEDION Smart Home products can also use the innogy SmartHome system intelligence and smartphone app for selected smart devices.
